Akihito Okuda, Klavier

Geboren 1985 in Japan, gab Akihito Okuda im Alter von 12 Jahren sein Debüt mit dem Kanagawa Philharmonie Orchester. Seitdem erhielt er zahlreiche Preise bei nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben, wie zum Beispiel beim Internationalen Wettbewerb in Ettlingen und beim Takahiro Sonoda Award in Japan.

In den letzten Jahren errang er erste Preise u.a. beim „Pietro Argento“ in Italien und bei der Young Concert Artist European Audition in Leipzig. Er war außerdem Solofinalist beim Internationalen Busoni-Wettbewerb. 2010 wurde er beim Isang Yun Internationalen Wettbewerb mit dem Isang Yun Spezialpreis ausgezeichnet und im März 2011 gewann er den 3. Preis und den Preis für die beste Interpretation des zeitgenössischen Werkes beim 23. Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb Epinal in Frankreich.

Akihito Okuda konzertiert regelmäßig in verschiedenen Ländern Europas wie Deutschland, Spanien und in Italien und ist als Solist mit Orchestern wie dem Kyushu Symphony Orchester und Osaka Symphonikern aufgetreten.

Seine musikalische Ausbildung erhielt Akihito Okuda u.a. bei Suzuko Aono, Naoyuki Taneda und Wolfgang Manz. Durch prominente Musiker wie Cyprien Katsaris, Bernard Ringeissen und Paul Badura-Skoda bekam er weitere künstlerische Anregungen.

Nach seinem Diplom im Sommer 2010 bei Prof. Klaus Hellwig an der Universität der Künste Berlin setzt er sein Studium im Solistendiplom bei Homero Francesch an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in der Schweiz fort. Sein Glaube an die Notwendigkeit eines informierten und weit gefächerten Zugangs zu Musik führte ihn außerdem 2003-2004 zu einem Studium der Politikwissenschaften an der renommierten Keio Universität in Japan.

Er ist über die Jahre Stipendiat diverser Stiftungen u.a. Rohm Music Foundation, Gisela und Erich Andreas Stiftung und DAAD und wird außerdem gefördert durch den Verein Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now.

Biography (english version)

Born in 1985, Akihito Okuda made his critically-acclaimed debut with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 12 after winning the Kanagawa Piano Competition in 1997. Since then, he has won many prizes in both national and international competitions such as the International Piano Competition for Young Pianists Ettlingen in Germany, the Takahiro Sonoda Award Piano Competition in Japan and the International Piano Competition Alicia de Larrocha in Andorra.

In the last few years, he was one of the 12 solo finalists in the 56th Busoni International Piano Competition and was also the first prize winner in several other international competitions including the Competition for Young Pianists in Catalonia, Spain and the Young Concert Artists European Audition in Leipzig, Germany. His exceptional performance of a Chopin Etude at the 1st Shura Cherkassky International Piano Competition led to the Jury`s spontaneous decision to set up and award him a Special Prize for the Best Performance of a Chopin Etude.

Most recently, he was honored with the Isang Yun Special Prize in the Isang Yun Internatioanl Competiition in Korea 2010 and in March of this year, he won the third prize and the prize for the best interpretation of modern music in the prestigious 23nd Epinal International Piano Competition in France.

A native of Japan, Akihito began his musical studies at the age of five and has spent his childhood in Bahrain, Switzerland and Hungary. His teachers include Suzuko Aono, Naoyuki Taneda and Wolfgang Manz before moving to Germany to pursue his current piano studies with Klaus Hellwig at the University of Arts, Berlin. His belief in a broad-minded approach had also led him to study Policy Management at the prestigious Keio University in Japan from 2003-2004.

Through the years, he has received further musical impulses from prominent musicians such as Fou Ts'ong, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Bernard Ringeissen, Cyprian Katsaris, Kevin Kenner and Paul Badura-Skoda and has given recitals in Japan and in many European countries.

Television and radio coverage on him include BBC in England, NHK in Japan and several other stations in Spain, Italy, Germany and in France. In the past few years, he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, the Osaka Symphoniker, and Bacau Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, Akihito is a promoted artist of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now.
